Deepali Ravel, Ph.D.

Director of Education and Lecturer, Harvard Graduate Program in Bacteriology & Infectious Diseases Consortium 

Deepali Ravel is a Lecturer in the HMS Department of Microbiology and HSPH Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, where she serves as Director of Education for the Harvard Graduate Program in Bacteriology and Infectious Diseases Consortium. Dr. Ravel received a BS in Biology from MIT and a PhD from Harvard Medical School in 2017, where she studied how malaria parasites remodel human red blood cells during infection. She then pursued postdoctoral training in evidence-based teaching as a Harvard Curriculum Fellow. Dr. Ravel’s core interest as an educator is preparing students to use their biology training as a tool to promote health equity. In her graduate education role, she teaches microbiology and infectious diseases courses, leads workshops on research skills and mentoring/mentoring up, designs and evaluates curriculum, advises students, and leads initiatives related to inclusive teaching training, mentorship access, department culture, and youth engagement. Dr. Ravel is a member of the HSPH Constructive Engagement Working Group and is a trained facilitator for the CIMER “Entering Mentoring,” “Entering Research,” and “Culturally Aware Mentoring” curricula.
